How much you really need invested to earn passive income in Nigeria

Most Nigerians save and invest randomly, hoping they are on track. To earn ₦500k, ₦1.5m, or ₦2.5m every single month in passive income, here’s the exact amount you need invested.

Emeka earned well for fifteen years. Saved what was left but never knew his target. At 45, he had no idea how close or far he actually was because no one gave him the number. This post does.

One formula runs the whole story.
Monthly passive income = Total invested × Portfolio yield ÷ 12.
Once you know your yield and target, the number you need becomes clear.

Your money can yield between 15% and 22% in Nigeria right now through bonds, dividend stocks, and money market funds. We’ll use 18% as our planning target. Conservative yet strong enough to change your life.

Target 1: ₦500,000 monthly (₦6 million yearly)

At 18% yield: ₦6 million ÷ 0.18 = ₦33.3 million invested. It means ₦33.3m, not billions, built consistently over time, pays you ₦500,000 monthly for life without working for it.

Target 2: ₦1.5 million monthly (₦18 million yearly)

At 18% yield: ₦18 million ÷ 0.18 = ₦100 million invested. Rent pays itself, salary becomes optional. ₦100 million in income-generating assets is a target, and targets have plans.

Target: ₦2.5 million monthly (₦30 million yearly)

At 18% yield: ₦30 million ÷ 0.18 = ₦166.7 million invested. At this number, money stops running your decisions. You work because you want to and leave what no longer serves you.

How fast you get there comes down to three things only. How much you invest monthly. How early you start. Whether you reinvest your returns before you need them. Control these three and time does the rest.

How to start today

  1. Pick one target (₦500k, ₦1.5m, or ₦2.5m monthly) write it down today.
  2. Calculate where you are now. Current portfolio × 0.18 ÷ 12.
  3. Open Cardinal Stone, Bamboo or Cowrywise today and start your income portfolio.
  4. Automate and reinvest returns until you reach your goal. Let time do the rest.
  5. Give and enjoy life while on the journey

Remember, we don’t grow by learning alone. We grow by doing.
