Dangote Refinery IPO: the price, application process and risks explained
Understand the Dangote Refinery offer price, minimum application, official channels, timetable discrepancy and risks before deciding whether to apply.
You may buy petrol regularly without thinking about the business behind it. When that business offers shares to the public, the question changes from what its products cost to whether owning part of it belongs in your financial plan.
Dangote Refinery’s public offer has attracted attention because the minimum application is within reach of many households. Affordability is useful, but it is only one part of the decision. The terms, business risks and money you can leave invested matter much more than the excitement around a familiar name.
Offer information checked on 24 October 2026: the official offer page shows ₦525 per share, a minimum application of 10 shares costing ₦5,250, and a closing date of 27 October 2026. Recheck the official page and approved channel before applying because offer details can change.
Read the date information carefully
There is a detail worth noticing before you pay. The prospectus currently linked from the official site carries an earlier closing date of 13 October 2026, while the live offer page shows 27 October. Do not treat an old downloaded document or a social media screenshot as the final word on the current timetable.
Use the official subscription guide and ask the listed issuing house or approved receiving agent to confirm the latest timetable and any supplementary terms. This article reports the difference rather than assuming that every document has been updated.
Understand what you would own
Shares represent ownership in a company. If shares are allotted to you, their value can rise or fall, and you may receive dividends if the company declares them. You are not placing money in a savings account with a promised interest rate.
The prospectus linked from the official site describes the issuer and terms. Read the business description, financial statements, use of proceeds and risk factors, and obtain the latest applicable documents before deciding. Regulatory registration does not mean the regulator guarantees the investment.
A successful refinery and an attractive share investment are related questions, but they are not identical. The price you pay, future profits, debt, investment needs and risks influence what ownership may be worth to you.
Work out what the application would cost
At the stated ₦525 offer price, 10 shares cost ₦5,250, 100 shares cost ₦52,500 and 1,000 shares cost ₦525,000. These are price multiplied by quantity calculations, not estimates of future value. Confirm any applicable charges through the approved channel.
Imagine, for illustration, that you have ₦100,000 available after meeting your essential commitments. Putting ₦52,500 into 100 shares would place more than half that amount in a single company. The minimum application being affordable does not establish the right allocation for your household.
Write down when you will need the money and what a substantial fall would mean for you. Rent, school fees and an emergency reserve deserve a different plan from funds intended for a longer term investment. Our free Money Plan can help you make those commitments visible.
Apply through an approved channel
Start from the official offer website and follow its current list of approved receiving agents and electronic application channels. Do not assume every broker or investment app can process this particular offer.
Follow the selected channel’s identity checks and instructions, using details that match your records. Enter sensitive information only within the verified service. Never send a PIN, password or one-time code to someone claiming to assist, and do not pay into a personal account.
Choose the share quantity you have decided you can afford, check the full amount and keep the application’s confirmation and payment record. If anything differs from the official terms, stop and ask the provider through its verified contact route.
The official offer site is an information and routing service. Subscription processing takes place through approved channels. A person offering a private shortcut or guaranteed allocation should not replace that process.
Payment confirmation is not the same as allotment
An application asks for shares. Allotment is the later process that determines what you receive under the applicable offer terms. Keep track of the issuer’s communications and the registrar’s instructions rather than treating the payment receipt as the whole process.
Ask how allotment, any refund and the recording of your holding will be handled. If you are unsure, a licensed intermediary should be able to explain the process before you transfer money. Do not assume you will be able to sell immediately whenever you wish.
Look at the business beyond the headline
A refinery depends on the relationship between what it pays for inputs and what it earns from selling its products. Crude supply, refining margins, foreign exchange exposure, financing, regulation and operational performance can all affect results. Expansion can create opportunity while also demanding money and careful execution.
Read recent results alongside the notes and the longer term financial position. Ask what caused a profit increase and whether those conditions could change. A famous founder or an impressive facility does not remove the need to assess the price and risks.

Use the explanation, then make your own decision
The video below provides additional context. Always check its date against the current official terms, particularly where the timetable has changed.
Before you apply, answer three questions in your own words: what am I buying, what could go wrong, and why does this amount fit my wider plan? If one answer is missing, use the time to understand it. You can respect an important Nigerian business and still decide that its offer is unsuitable for you.
